How did you feel when you found out you won the contest?
[Francis:] It was wonderful...it felt wonderful. I can't explain the feeling of great joy!!!!!!! I was thanking God, then thanking you.
How did you come up with the idea for the winning sandwich?
I knew that mint goes well with pork and I love the taste of a good jalapeño, so I thought I would put them together with all the sandwich ingredients that I like...so that was the beginning of "The New Dagwood".
Have you ever won a cooking contest before?
Yes, I won one other contest, a shrimp contest.
Why do you think gourmet sandwiches are becoming such a trend?
People want gourmet food and they want it in a hurry. Everyone is getting tried of "junk food" and "fast food". A gourmet sandwich is just a few minutes away with gourmet products such as the line that you carry.
How long have you been using Mezzetta products?
For about 4 years now. I would not purchase any other products. Your sandwich is only as good as the ingredients that you make it with.
Any plans yet for the prize money?
I'm going to sock it away.
